Workshop #1

The Harold + show-pportunity!:

Join for a Harold longform format intensive workshop. "To Be Continued... Hong Kong" (TBC HK) will give a rundown of the Harold structure, a few opening game options, and a walk through of layer/spacer games. We'll look at various options for ending your Harold, and cover tips for remembering the offers from the opening. 

After the logistical overview, (which is fun because the instructor always finds ways to make food analogies, so make sure you eat before class)....and time permitting, we'll run a full Harold at the end of the workshop. All this leading up to an evening performance directly applying the fresh learnings to the adoring Bangkok throngs. The plan is to teach you a Harold, or sharpen your existing Harold/longform knowledge so that audiences laugh and love you so much they simply must throw panties at you. Not into rock star panty fans? Ok, maybe this isn't the workshop for you. 

The Instructor:

Lauren Berning of TBC HK hails from sunny California and brings over 20 years of international improv experience. She teaches a supportive improv style which pushes for authenticity allowing humour to naturally form. Her workshop will include side coaching and directed scene work, as well as active feedback on both the style and individual contributions.

Workshop #2

Finding the moment in a scene + show-pportunity!:

Do you ever wonder what the key line or action was of a scene? 

We will learn to look for and recognize the point of the scene that defines the relationship and the scene. Our goal is try to make improv easy. By finding the moment and running with it, the relationship becomes more defined and now you can play. We will also learn to focus on the relationship and organically create these moments.

The Instructor:

Jeff Ringgold is the owner artistic director of American Improv Theatre, (AIT). He started his improv career over 30 years ago in the SF Bay Area as one of the founding members of The San Jose ComedySportz, CSz. He then moved to L.A. and played for CSz in Santa Barbara and L.A. While still doing short form improv with CSz and National Comedy Theatre, Jeff studied long form improv and graduated from iOWest. He became a member of their first house team. Jeff has studied improv in L.A., Chicago, and New York and has been closely mentored by Jonathan Winters and Del Close, who taught the likes of Bill Murray and Stephen Colbert....
