Tears of the Black Tiger (ฟ้าทะลายโจร)

A modern film in the style of old Thai cinema master, Tears of the Black Tiger is the first Thai film selected to screen in Un Certain Regard at Cannes in 2001. Tears of the Black Tiger is the tragic love story of Rumpoey, the daughter of a noble family, and Dum (The Black Tiger), an outlaw and the pawn of fate. They fall in love as children, forming a deep and unforgettable romance. Years pass by; they become adults and drift apart. Dum enters Bangkok to attend university where he runs into Rumpoey. She greets him but he denies ever knowing her rescue. But his brave action leads to his dismissal from university. Before parting, the two confess their undying love for each other and Dum vows to return for her hand in marriage. But fate has yet to play its dirty hand. Dum returns to the country and finds his father killed by bandits. Seeking revenge, he stumbles into a band of outlaws.
