These nine short films are the works of young German film makers and unmistakable evidence of a new wave of German cinema. The films were created between 1989 and 2002 with the support of German film schools or similar educational institutions. Although depicting different themes, there is for example Pepe Danquart’s “Black Rider“, which depicts racism in a German cable car or Marc-Andreas Bochert‘s “Small Change“ about a strange bond between a rich business man and a homeless person, they all show a clear interest in the events of the world around them. However, instead of expressing allegiance to a particular ideology, these films advocate a humane outlook, whether dealing with the past or the present. While these works may differ greatly, they have one thing in common: they were all either nominated for, or won, a much-coveted Oscar®.
