Voted as the Best Opera Company in China in 2015 featuring Mao Weitao, only female opera singer in China to have been awarded the prestigious Plum Award three times. An extremely popular opera singer, Mao Weitao has over 20 million fans.

Zhejiang Yueju Opera Troupe, a renowned female troupe, known for its dramatic stagings is all set to enchant Bangkok with its most famous production, The Butterfly Lovers. Based on a Chinese legend, it is a tragic story of  two young lovers: Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai; their names in the Chinese script form the title of the story. The title is often abbreviated to Liang Zhu. The story is one of China's four greatest folktales. This elaborate and classic opera is distinguished by its spectacular arias and world-class chorus.  The characters, much like any other opera, emote and not just sing; their emotions clearly visible as they are not hidden behind tick white make up.

The company has a vast repertoire of award-winning productions and has more than100 prizes in national competitions to its credit. Several of its artistes, like Mao Weitao,  have been recognised with individual awards at national and provincial competitions. Mao Weitao also has a fan following of millions. Plus, many of the company’s choreographer-directors and musicians have been honoured with the title: ‘1st grade professional’. The company tours extensively and has staged its productions in Paris, Hong Kong, Korea, Macau, Taiwan, United States, Singapore, Spain, Holland, France, Belgium and Japan.
