Under the baton of Alfonso Scarano, the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra (TPO) together with the Japanese pianist Eri Nakagawa presents “Symphonie Fantastique” concert.
The concert will take all audiences to explore the musical extremes of passion, love, despair, and death through immortal classical pieces.
The soloist Eri Nakagawa, who has performed as a soloist with numerous orchestras such as the Ball State Symphony Orchestra, Osaka Mozart Ensemble, etc., will perform Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No.4 in G Major Op.58. Beethoven finished it in 1806 and it was premiered in 1808. He dedicated the concerto to his friend, student, and patron after passing his soul-troubling times.
The piano concerto has three parts.
The first part starts with the presentation of the theme by the solo instrument. The second is a part full of contrasts, constructed like a dialogue between the orchestra and the solo instrument. The conversational character of this part renders the image of overcoming all hardships. And the last brings a cheerful and optimistic note through the themes of simple folkloric-like dance rhythms. It is considered to be one of the central works of the piano concerto literature.
In the second half of the program, the TPO will perform Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, premiered in 1830. The composition was famously inspired by a sexually charged and passionate relationship with the Irish actress Harriet Smithson. The woman became his wife but eventually parted company with him. Perhaps the most powerful artistic expression of unrequited love, Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique is a dark, vivid fantasy.
