Aug. 26, 1920 is the 96th birthday of General Prem Tinsulanonda, President of the Privy Council of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej. General Prem is the 16th Prime Minister of Thailand (between 1980-1988). Though General Prem turns 96 years old this year, yet he is strong, healthy and always walks upright briskly, setting a great example for senior citizens. General Prem Tinsulanonda is truly a man with a good quality of life by being careful with his diet and exercise. In addition, General Prem is very fond of music and he has once remarked that “There are only two remaining purposes in my life which are to protect the Throne and music.”
For General Prem Tinsulanonda, music is related to many things as he likes to sing and also sponsor many music events. He has purchased an used piano and always practices with discipline before and after his piano lessons. Consequently, General Prem began to compose music and even set up the Army Orchestra which has performed in many occasions.
In supporting music education, Gen. Prem Tinsulanonda has provided scholarships to music students of the Army orchestra and encouraged the students to further study Master of Music as Army recognizes the importance of music.
The College of Music, Mahidol University is grateful for General Prem’s long term support and sponsorship through the “Prem Music Fund” to provide music education for the disadvantaged students who are musically talented and to bring good music to those who want to study music.
