Started by the founder of Expique Simon Philipp and Mae Rosukhon Hurley of The Language Base, Random Thainess is a series of events with a focus on everything Thai.

The special talks, dinners and meet-ups bring locals, expats and tourists together to chat with one another over buffet-style street food and 60-baht beers.

The main highlights of the monthly events are the presentations, where six speakers have six minutes each to discuss a Thailand-related topic of their choice. Topics range from Thais working abroad to ecotourism, ghosts and more!

At the September event, we identified Thai food based on each region, learned the meaning behind the different noises Thai people make when they’re surprised, happy or scared and heard a passionate talk about faith in Thailand and the Buddhist ideals embedded in the culture.

Tickets cost 250 B and part of the proceeds go towards various charities and organizations benefitting Thailand, such as THEP: Thailand Hilltribe Education Projects.

Keep an eye out here and on the Random Thainess Facebook page for upcoming events.
