Although Bangkok is full of hotels with pools that host weekly or monthly pool parties, you have to stay there to actually use the pool. This is not the case at Ocean, as it is the only place where you have access to the pool anytime, anyday. The best part about Ocean is that it is reminiscent of being at the beach without having to leave the city, as it is just a 5-minute walk down Sukhumvit Soi 33 (Phrom Phong BTS).
Part-resort, part-restaurant and part-bar, Ocean comprises a spacious deck with chic but comfortable white furniture that lures you to spend the entire day chilling by the pool, which is perfect for a weekday or weekend getaway.
You’ll see mostly young and attractive expats as well as some Thais, as they lounge about, splash around and bop to groovy house or occasional hip hop music played by some of the most renowned Bangkok DJs.
The ambience is a mixture of stylish, elegant and fun whether you’re lounging with a bottle of champagne or taking it up a notch on the party scale with their free open bar of house cocktails on Sundays from 3pm to 4pm.

If the sun bothers you on the deck, there’s also an indoor area that is also very beachy, as they put sand in the corner to put your feet in. You can also play foozball, beer pong or ping pong with your friends here, so there’s never a reason to get bored.
Always check in advance about what events are being held at Ocean because if you’re expecting a very tranquil visit every time, you’re going to be disappointed. It can get really hyped up both day or night.
Watch the place transform from day to night, as the white furniture and aqua pool glisten in the sunlight and switch to a purple and blue disco-y hue when the sun goes down.
Ocean - Poolside at Nighttime
Since this is a resort, there are 18 stylish rooms available for stay, which are fully equipped with air conditioning, a 42” flat-screen TV, free Wi-Fi, a private safe, a mini-bar and an iPod dock. Experience either a superior room or a deluxe suite, which come with a private single or double whirlpool!
Ocean - Room Interior
Since I’ve never stayed a night at Ocean, I can’t really comment on the quality and the experience of the rooms, but I do plan on staying a night someday.
The Food & Drinks
The menu here ranges from popular Thai dishes, bar snacks, sandwiches and burgers to bistronomy concept tapas to a full-fledged Sunday brunch (a la carte buffet) offer that changes every week. The buffet is 590 B, featuring unlimited servings of salads, satays, French fries, fried rice and sandwiches. Add another 310 B to top off the buffet with more premium items such as mixed beef skewers and sea bass on plancha with pesto sauce. The price is reasonable for the quantity, while the quality of ingredients and flavor is adequate. If the brunch doesn’t suit your needs, definitely try out their Ocean Burger (210 B) or the Chicken Wings in Moroccan Spices from their a la carte menu.

They also offer a variety of signature cocktails starting at only 150 B with names like the Thai Mojito and the Farang Martini. Other drinks on offer include sangria, a selection of beer (Singha/Chang at 130 B, Carlsberg/Asahi/San Miguel Light at 170 B and Corona at a whopping 300 B) in addition to a standard list of cocktails and distilled liquors.
The Bottom Line
Ocean is certainly my go-to place on Sundays - if not every weekend, at least once or twice a month. Who can say no to a free open bar? I personally prefer this over any night out in Bangkok. The venue also holds regular awesome events and promotions such as the Bikini Pillow Fight, birthday discounts and much more, all of which can be found on their Facebook. They are also launching a new breakfast concept every Saturday and Sunday, opening their doors at 6am with a DJ spinning by the pool as you chill out in your Ocean sunglasses and indulge in the English/French breakfast.
Next time you want to do something different for your birthday or you’re bored of late nights at RCA or Ku De Ta, give Ocean a try.
