Matt, the owner and cook of Angel Wings, grew between two cultures. His childhood meals were a combination of Thai and American cuisine, with his mom frequently mixing Thai herbs and sauces into classic American dishes. Those childhood meals were the inspiration behind Angel Wings - American food in Bangkok.
Angel Wings - Matt doing his thing
You can choose either chicken wings (150baht 6 pieces) or short ribs (150baht 6 pieces), and with a selection of 10 different sauces you aren't short on options. We tried their signature BBQ, Buffalo and Issan flavors on our visit. The BBQ sauce was a combination of classic BBQ and Thai herbs. Those wings were wrapped with bacon before frying, creating a juicy compliment of smokey flavors and crispy texture. They are difficult to stop eating! The Buffalo sauce was unconventional, although balanced between sweet and sour notes. And if you like it spicy, the Issan sauce is inspired by a homemade recipe that is true to it's roots. You can also choose to add American-style Cheese Fries or normal Fries with any order.
Angel Wings - Wings and Fries
If you have a craving for chicken wings - American or Thai style - Angel Wings can normally be found during the week parked behind Wishbeer Home Bar just next to Sukhumvit Hospital after BTS Ekkamai, or at La Fondue in Talad Rot Fai night market during the weekends. Be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram to track them down during food festivals and other special events.
The Bottom Line
The wings were surprisingly juicy, not dry, and not excessively greasy. These people know how to use a fryer, and their ingredient quality is solid. The black pepper, sesame garlic and sriracha sauces are next up on our wishlist, but you can't try them all in one sitting! If you're looking for comfort food, this is your place.
