Sombat Permpoon Gallery is delighted to present a rare series of etching art prints. Creating, from 1971-1977 by a leading figure of Thai modern art, Vira Jothaprasert

Vira Jothaprasert was born in 1934 in Bangkok and deceased in 2002. He was a leading figure of Thai modern art. Vira received B.F.A from Silpakorn University and in 1962 he received a Scholarship to further his education in Italy at
the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma.

Vira specialized in watercolor and etching techniques. He is remembered as one of the few artists dedicated to the arts of prints, etchings and monotypes. The artist applied traditional Thai painting style by showing subjects in his works in two dimensions without perspective. He also adorned his expertise of water colors on the prints at the end of his printing process. Vira’s works resembled the early period of Thai visual art, which combined both western techniques and Thai spirit.

Vira was a Professor at the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silapakorn University. He was awarded five medals in painting and graphic arts from the prestigious National Art Exhibition in the 1960s, exhibited in International Exhibition of Graphic Arts, Yugoslavia, Germany, Japan, France and U.S.A. His work is held in numerous private and public collections, including the permanent collection of the
National Museum of Art of Argentina.
