Dear You,
Screenwriters and directors are thieves. We secretly steal the truth seen and encountered, and we reconstruct it as our own.
We secretly write stories that may not happen in real life but we turn them into reality in our scripts. We secretly tell our crews to build sets resembling¬ something from our memories (or oftentimes we simply copy real locations). If some truths don’t appeal to us, we fix or twist them, and retell them as realities.
We have our version of reality. Actually, everyone has their own version of reality. No matter how well we think we know our friends, they are who they are as defined or written by us. When I see you, I have my version of who you are. Likewise, you have your version of who I am. I even have my own version of ‘me’ that you may not agree.
Writing, creating and imagining are the basic nature of screenwriters and directors. If you make movies for 5-10 years in a roll, you’ll dream in movies. You’ll see strangers as characters, surrounding as shots (like when Neo in The Matrix see everything in green digital codes). It is necessary for me to quietly watch and observe, and act like a defeated, shy spirit. I might have stolen a look at you on the day we meet within the distance of 450 metres, If I like you, I can’t help but think of your stories, about what have happened and what will happen. I hope you aren’t offended if what I write about you isn’t real. But that is how I imagine you to be. And I promise that only people in Sathorn Soi 1 know about this story. If there are to be more, I will let you know later.
Thank You,
Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit
