“Made by Paris?” by Wisharawish Akarasantisook
Adler Subhashok Gallery -
The French Embassy in Thailand and the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture (OCAC)of the Ministry of Culture will be sponsoring a unique “Made by Paris?” exhibition by Wisharawish Akarasantisook at the Adler Subhashok Gallery
Wisharawish’s exhibition was inspired by his 6-month sojourn in Paris when he was selected from Thailand to attend the Cité Internationale des Arts in France, which provides a platform to further develop the talents of professional artists from around the world.
During his stay in Paris, Wisharawish was immersed in contemporary arts, design and fashion, and his latest exhibition, “Made by Paris?”, is the result of his experiences and impressions of seeing how Parisians live, their environment as well as the happenings in the City of Lights. “Made by Paris?” is presented in 2 parts:
Imaginary Map
The Imaginary Map collection consists of 24 collages of pictures, wordings and articles on A4-size paper. Each ‘map’ reflects life in Paris and Parisians’ perspective towards freedom of design. The 24-piece collection is presented as mysterious puzzles to encourage viewers to interpret the meaning of each work themselves.
The Artisans
This part is presented in textile format combined with photographs. All the 7 photographs tell the viewer stories of Wisharawish himself while in Paris. The photographs were printed on fabric before being cut into small pieces, and woven with thread by traditional technique from his hometown. The complete work looks like a flag, which is normally used for religious ceremonies or decoration during festivities. The content focuses on craftsmanship of the two countries – Thailand and France.
