This programme devoted to what might be called the New Wave of Italian Animation will feature authors who have mostly established themselves in the last ten to fifteen years, and whose main common point seems to be the desire to invent often ambiguous or enigmatic, if not decidedly absurd, characters, and to tell stories in a fragmented narrative way.

From Gianluigi Toccafondo’s fluid, almost painterly, elegance and sensuality to Donato Sansone’s extraordinary animation techniques; from Stefano Ricci's astonishing ultra-short animations to Magda Guidi’s lo-fi extravaganza featuring punk icon Joey Ramone; from Blu’s mindblowing experiment in pioneering new animation techniques to Michele Bernardi and Alessia Travaglini’s extremely elegant take on traditional animation, the programme will present quite a few unique and fascinating visual worlds.

Fabrizio Gilardino is an Italian graphic designer, visual artist and curator who divides his time between Montreal and South-East Asia.
