Identity/Non-Identity Exhibition
Alliance Francaise Bangkok -
Last century, French writer Marcel Proust wrote in his book Contre Sainte-Beuve, or Against Sainte-Beuve: “A book is the product of a different self from the one we manifest in our habits, in society, in our vices. If we mean to try to understand this self, it is only in our inmost depths, by endeavoring to reconstruct it there, that the quest can be achieved.”
Whether it is through numerical, specific, qualitative, collective or personal data, the notion of identity is understood as a combination of information enabling a person to shape himself as an individual but also to differentiate himself.
The American, Belgian, French and Thai teachers of the painting department at the Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Fine Arts are inviting you to reflect on the notions of identity and non-identity through exhibited works.
