Dimensions Variable by Kade Javanalikhikara
Abstract painter Kade Javanalikhikara has long been concerned with climate change, environmental issues and human actions. Back in 1993, his exhibition Brown Air, Brown Trees, Brown Ocean and A Dirty Automobile took aim at human activities and the use of technology as the cause of climate change and deterioration of nature. For some 20 years, Kade has been living and working in Chiang Mai and has born witness to changes in the weather pattern. The experience has given him a source of artistic inspiration, to make both positive and negative comments.
For Dimensions Variable, Kade combines two elements to create his art: 1) the state of nature and the environment and 2) abstract paintings and words whose compositions can be altered (rearranged composition/painting). A work can be rearranged in different ways, thus challenging his thinking process.
The exhibition aims to stimulate the viewer to question human impact on environmental issues. So, how can humans maintain the balance between their ways of life and nature? Or is it simply impossible for humans to stop encroaching on the environment as long as they continue to pass on their consumerist lifestyle from one generation to the next.
