Join the opening of a new art space at Brownstones Studio.

Music rehearsal Brownstone Studios is proud to announce it is transforming into an art gallery dedicated to non-representational artworks, performances, 3D installations and original music. The gallery will provide a unique venue for art lovers to collectively explore the common language of abstract painting and music and to taste their dissonant overtones.

Please join us on Saturday August 9th, from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m , for the gallery opening exhibition 'Developing the B' and to meet the artists Soichiro Shimizu and Joe Delaney

Brownstone gallery’s first exhibition invited the curating platform CONCRETE projects to transform the space, which is known mainly as a music rehearsal studio, into an art gallery.

“Developing the B” is an exhibition organised around two abstract artists: Soichiro Shimizu and Joe Delaney.

The title Developping the B is a homonym associated with the title of the last painting by Vassily Kandinsky in 1933: Developpement en brun (Development in brown). Known as belonging to the Expressionist movement, Vassily Kandinsky was subsequently considered as a founding father of abstract painting.

The association between art and music is obviously the primary concern of this exhibition and the language between abstract painting and music - in particular, so-called "analog" music, which is more mechanical, very much like a gesture in painting.

In the French language, music is taught differently, a B note is called "Si" and in common parlance, "Si" means "If".

The exhibition thus has a more interrogative sense of the possible dialogue between abstract painting and music. To give shape to this attempt, musician Tommy Hanson will be on hand to initiate this dialogue with the two artists.

In painting we speak of colours and tones.
In music we talk about notes and tones.

Developing the B may be an attempt to research this "if" and both of these tones could act as the doorway to enter the dialogue.
