Capturing the Intangible
Sanitas Pradittasnee

Long-accumulated values have turned into beliefs that are coded into symbols, be they behaviors and rituals and man-made objects such as statues and architecture. The stronger the materiality of beliefs, the more obscure their true meanings become. The object of worship is then the appearance, not the essence.

Sanitas Pradittasnee has considered the shape and form of symbols in which beliefs reside and tried to capture belief in its various manifestations. Her attempts to transform what is intangible into an experience has led to the questioning of the core of belief and the truth of life.

The exhibition Capturing the Intangible comprises ten sculptures and installations. The artist has constructed a space that explores life’s meaning and offers a journey from an outer layer to a core. The artworks reverse forms of belief and their assigned meanings, thus giving the audience an opportunity to look right through emptiness and see substance.
