A solo exhibition “Barry X Ball: Portraits and Photos”, by the American sculptor, this is first show of the artist’s work in Southeast Asia. The exhibition features a dual-portrait of the artist and his well-known contemporary, Matthew Barney, realized in translucent, richly-colored Mexican onyx. The concentrated Janusian figure, suffused with delicate relief carving and impaled on a 24K gold-plated stainless steel javelin, is suspended via a delicate cable-funnel network as the central element of a complex room-encompassing installation. Accompanying this work is a comprehensive selection of images from the artist’s two new photo series, the Ca’ Rezzonico (Venice) and Palazzo Mansi (Lucca) suites. These sumptuous images, the artist’s first photo works, are based on installations of his stone sculptures in palatial Italian settings.
